Highlights from 2014
We brought feminist dance to three of San Francisco’s top theaters.
At Dance Mission Theater, our multi-media Rocked by Women show was a success with audiences and critics alike! Thank you to everyone who supported the production and shared their Mother’s Day Weekend with us.
“AMAZING SHOW! Truly inspired by the unique roles, styles, and perspectives brought by each dancer in the Sarah Bush Dance Project … no better way to honor the powerful this Mothers Day!”
– Tara, Audience Member
“[Rocked by Women] contains personal material that also feels universal, speaking to those who don’t fit into given norms, and who have had to struggle to become who they are meant to be… Rocked became a weighty yet explosive expression of the power of an indomitable spirit and embracing courage.”
– Rita Felciano, SF Bay Guardian
This fall, we were selected to perform our unique blend of hip-hop and contemporary dance in two dance festivals in San Francisco – the 23rd annual West Wave Dance Festival at Z Space, and the inaugural PUSHfest dance festival at ODC Theater.
In addition to our artistic accomplishments, 2014 was an exciting year of growth for the organization. Sarah has been working closely with a mentor, Victor Gotesman, Executive Director of ODC. We formed an Advisory Council – a group of people who understand and support Sarah’s artistic vision and believe strongly in the significance and power of SBDP’s work. Collectively, the Council brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the SBDP family, forming the support base of active advisors and champions for Sarah Bush Dance Project’s growth and development.
