The dancers and I have just returned from a glorious and productive Artist Residency at the Dos Rios retreat center on Yuki territory in Northern CA. We left the Bay Area Friday afternoon to spend two nights under a thick canopy of stars, mornings eating quiet breakfasts with deer, an afternoon swimming in the Eel River, sharing cooking and meals, sharing writing and conversation about topics related to our upcoming show, and hours rehearsing on the property’s gorgeous open-air stages and amongst its varied natural and human-made environments.
We say cheers of thanks to Joan Lazarus for generously loaning us her all-wheel-drive vehicle to navigate the steep dirt access road, and we do leaps of gratitude for Krissy Keefer and Dance Brigade’s Dance Mission for the gift and resources of this Dos Rios Residency. It was the perfect setting for Frances, Julianna, KJ, Lydia, and I to deepen our connections to each other and immerse ourselves in the creative work for Un-Changing Nature.
Enjoy the photos.
