This bold, vivacious performance is choreographed by Sarah Bush, acclaimed by the San Francisco Chronicle as “a force to be reckoned with” and heralded as “a modern dance bellwether” by the SF Weekly. The choreography weaves hip hop, modern, ballet and contemporary dance to tell the story of a woman’s journey of growing up, coming out, falling in love and experiencing heartbreak.
Here’s what the press had to say about 2014’s Rocked By Women show:
SF Bay Guardian: “a weighty yet explosive expression of the power of an indomitable spirit and embracing courage…Rocked is a warm, skillfully created, and generous show that just might become a Mother’s Day tradition.”
Huffington Post: “The genius of this piece lies in its depiction of a journey that will be familiar to some, foreign to others, but that draws us all in with the seductiveness of the music, the vivacity of the dancers, and the austere and nimble staging…[a] monumental work, which would reverberate just as powerfully in an opera house as it did in the intimate Dance Mission
