Rocked By Women
All our lives we’ve been rocked by women.
Cradled. Shaken. Moved.
Rocked By Women is a multi-media dance performance that pays homage to the bold amazing women musicians who rocked me into my first steps, and who continue to inspire me to be the woman I am today. It is a story of gratitude, love, movement, and empowerment though art.
When I was a small child, my mother cradled me while singing Cris Williamson’s lullaby.
The strength that I have gained from these women has empowered me to live boldly, to take up space, to move my body, to touch hearts and minds.
This project has given me the opportunity to reach out to these women and hear their stories. This wide range of voices, crossing musical genres, spanning decades, continues to be a wellspring in my life and for my work.
Rocked by Women is more than a night of dance. It’s a night of history. Reminding us of the courage it takes to live fully as women, as mothers, as daughters, and especially – as artists and leaders. Rocked by Women is a reflection on past revolutionaries and an offering for those to come.
