During this time of staying at home, we’d like you to join us in our distance art-making project. We’ll share prompts and process and invite you to join us in this bird-inspired adventure and our 13th season.
#SixFootWingspan
Sarah Bush Dance Project is grateful for our year-long residency with Richardson Bay Audubon Center. Though it won’t look as we had imagined, we are adapting. The dancers are currently trying a new work-from-home process. We start the week with a check-in and discussion of relevant topics. From this we decide on a prompt and assignment, create movement in our own neighborhoods, then “gather” at the end of the week to develop the material as a group, either in video chats or (when it feels ok to do so) outside with a 6 foot distance between us.
Here’s one of our virtual rehearsals:
Below is a sampling of SBDP dancers’ responses to the prompts:
“Bird charades: embody and express your favorite bird through sight, sound, art, and/or movement.”
“Express your colorful self. Be the light that moves and bends over the ridges, like the sun flashing a rainbow through hummingbird feathers.”
“Spread your wings and find a balance. Fold and unfold your wings. Move slowly while feeling the air.”
View the prompts here and feel free to make and share your own art!
Here are some of the community responses.
