Dear SBDP Supporters,
Here in Northern California, it’s finally Fall—quite possibly my favorite time of year. I love the shifting lights and colors and smells, the fallen leaves. I love the feeling of cozying up with family and friends for the holidays, balanced with burrowing into my Sarah Bush Dance Project work. This “golden hour” of the year is a time of reflecting back with gratitude and visioning forward with purpose.
2015 has been a year full of thrilling growth and successes for me and for SBDP. I am grateful for the incredible company of dancers that brought such grace and heart and power to Rocked By Women and all of the community events we did this year. I am thrilled with the expanded outreach opportunities through radio and print media that allowed us to reach NEW audience. The company and I received council from our great Advisory Board and generous support from donors and friends and family. Thank you for YOUR part in this journey!
My new project, This Land, brings together two great sources of inspiration: Art and Nature. In the day-to-day of life there’s all the stuff that I get stuck in — commuting, texting, scheduling, negotiating, concerns about money, time, health, rent, grants, forms, car, insurance… They pinch in my focus, my eyes, my shoulders, my vision. When I take in art or I step out into nature, I change. I feel expansive, my breath deepens, my shoulders release, my vision softens & widens, my focus shifts to broader themes, the bigger picture.
In Spring 2016 This Land will be focused on the city of Oakland, celebrating its diverse landscapes with free outdoor community engagement events and site-specific performances. I invite you to join us on this adventure.
SBDP has received another grant from the City of Oakland Cultural Funding Program but we need your additional support to bring the project to fruition. Watch this short video, and please make a personally meaningful donation to Sarah Bush Dance Project today.
I believe so strongly in the value of this work, the impact of this project on the artists, audiences and communities it touches. In this season of reflection and gratitude, please join me in saying YES to art, exploration and adventure.
With excitement and thanksgiving,
Sarah Bush, Artistic Director
Sarah Bush Dance Project
